Farewell My Friend…

Life is full of transitions.  Change is everywhere around us.  We either flow with it or beat our head against the brick wall.  On June 21st, my husband’s birthday, our malamute Kobe had a pancreatic attack and we were told was not going to make it through the weekend.  Beating all odds, Kobe lived on another 1 1/2 months before another attack a week before our daughter’s first birthday.  We put Kobe to sleep with his duck that day.  For the next two months Maia (dd) would toddle up to Kobe’s ashes at the fireplace, touch the bag they were in and say night night doggie.

We went to the mountains this past week and took Kobe with us.  Rapidan camp was his next favorite place aside from anything snowy.   I immediately felt his presence there, as if he was waiting for us patiently.  We talked fondly of him during our stay and before we left, spread his ashes throughout the camp.  As we drove away I envisioned Kobe running through the woods chasing deer but then stopping and barking frantically at us (he hated being left).

We still have the box his ashes came in.  Funny thing, Maia doesn’t say night night doggie anymore.

Good night my friend Kobe.  You are loved so very much.
