Where have I been???

So I have been verrry absent from my website for awhile. For those of you who haven’t heard, we have moved, albeit temporarily, to Eastern Tennessee, (soon to be Asheville, NC). My husband had a job transfer and moved back in July of 2012. Maia and I stayed behind to put our Townhouse up for sale in August and well, sold it in ONE DAY with FIVE FULL OFFERS, three of which never even saw the Townhouse (they only saw the photos…ahem..pat on back). Really I have to give great Thanks and many many referrals to Lisa Burrows from The Real Estate Group in Virginia Beach. As a Real Estate Agent, she’s phenomenal, Lisa will stage your home to showroom quality. As a person, believe me, Lisa rocks! Pungo Strawberry Festival 2012

Pungo Strawberry Festival! This year marks “29 and Counting” years the festival has been welcoming summertime. The day was not as hot as last year (thankfully), the food was as always, DELICIOUS! My favorite being the strawberries in a waffle taco with whipped cream and sprinkles. Our daughter was also the highlight of this festival, as she grasps the excitement of flying elephants and banana airplanes. Click on the yummy strawberry taco to enjoy the photos. Studio Lighting Fun

Last weekend I took part in a lighting seminar given by Will King Photography. There were 18 photographers and 8 models there. Expectations were high as I was looking to get great technical knowledge with new and various lighting setups. According to Will, it all boils down to Light is Light, whether from a strobe or sun, its more the way you use your tools to make your light work the way you want it to.

That being said, here is a sampling of photographs taken with various lighting setups. What do you think?

Color Me Rad – Virginia Beach 2012

Run it or Shoot it? The website was more than intriguing, the race was going to be very awesome. I went round and round with this one (even posting the question on my Woodruff Photography Facebook Page). Flo-Foto, the Utah based Photography Company who is contracted for these events helped me with my decision – SHOOT it!

Approximately 7,500 people showed up for the Color Me Rad 5K. I photographed approximated 2,048 of them. I came in, ready to get down to business of taking awesome photos. I left with a sore trigger finger, extremely ORANGE and giddy with happiness. This race was totally a way to let go, run off some steam and have a load of fun! The Luck O’ The Irish – EPIC MMA

What goes better with green beer and friends on St. Patrick’s Day? Well how about a FIGHT! EPIC MMA put on another great event this past Saturday evening at the Hampton University Convocation Center. The MMA Fighters wowed the crowds and I found myself holding my breath as I had a “wipe your lens clean of blood” close up view of truly skilled competitors. Taste of Hampton Roads 2012

Nom Nom Nom! Who doesn’t love good food?! The Icebreaker Chef, Mark Conway was kind enough to invite me to attend The Taste of Hampton Roads this year. The event sold out fast as the competition was tightened up to the best ONE bite of food (can you say HOLLA?) per competing restaurants. The top three then had a cook-off, Iron Chef style, only using foods that the benefactor of the event (The Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia) would normally stock in their pantry. Loads of fun, great people and a wonderful cause. Hats off to you Mark, you did a great job!

Integrity

An acquaintance of mine recently blurbed on facebook that he was having problems with friends that decided to go elsewhere to have their business needs met. The fact that they were looking for other options bothered him personally enough that he posted about it. A few responses later he stated that what he was willing to do for free for them (I suppose as friends) was admittedly going to be not to standard as what his paying customers would get. ”No wonder” I thought.

Whether work is being done free of charge or not, integrity to standards should be kept at a consistent level. I recently gave a photo session up for a CHKD charity auction. The end result was that I had another fantastic photoshoot, a new friend of Woodruff Photography and, someone who recommended me on Linked-in. Word of mouth is a powerful tool. If you put out less then your best, its bound to get out there and sooner or later people will walk away.

OH…FOR THE LOVE OF FOOD!

Who loves good food? We spend at least 20% of our day thinking about it (if you are in a body building competition that percentage is much higher). Then there are all the choices to make, what do I feel like eating? Healthy? Not so healthy? Where shall we go for lunch? Recently I had the opportunity to do Food Photography at the historic Freemason Abbey Restaurant in Norfolk, VA. I was lucky enough to be able to taste test some of the dishes that were photographed here. To say that the food was delicious would be an understatement. The steak was savory melt-in-your-mouth divine, the Bailey’s cream cake with chocolate drizzle, well my mouth is watering again. So if you are traveling to Hampton Roads and are wondering where to go for scrumptious food (and also get a chance to see a beautiful historic Abbey), then give Freemason Abbey a call and make a reservation!

Anyone notice alot of Blue Knights Motorcycles recently?

A week ago I was asked to help out and photograph the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Convention at the Chesapeake Marriott and Chesapeake Convention Center. I had no idea that I was walking into an International Convention and was completely wow’ed by the amazing amount of motorcycles that were displayed. There were tours to Nauticus, The Military Aviation Museum, Virginia Aquarium and even the Norfolk Naval Station. The highlight of the four day long event was definitely the Skills Test in 105 degree heat (think big heavy motorcycles, helmets and leather while traversing between cones while being timed) PHEW!
