Open Spaces

Lately I’ve been yearning for open spaces, both physically and mentally.  My mind needs a Vipassana Meditation retreat.   There is some simplistic joy in carrying all of your belongings in a backpack and venturing out in the wilderness.  No worries about paying the electric bill or the needless want of this and that.  The only stress that you have is the physical pain of the blister forming on your foot.  Being present, current, mind quiet allows me to tap into the deeper part of myself.

My husband lovingly tells me that even when we think negative thoughts about others we are actually projecting what we think of ourselves.  At 17 months, my little girl tries to remind me every day to be present just by her actions.  When that doesn’t work she brings out her favorite book, Peaceful Piggy Meditation (because even on a terrible, horrible, disgustingly rotten day, peaceful piggies can…smile).  HA!  Ever had a day like that?

So now the challenge, to myself and to all that read this.  Try Metta Sutta (Universal Loving-Kindness).  Be mindful of the light that we carry within and allow it to spill forth for all.

I think I’ll go for a walk…..

I love that book — it helps me so much to get back into the right space! (And helps my son too)
